Tuesdays on the Run: Running Role Models/Runners You Admire

Erika @ MCM Mama Runs hosts Tuesdays on the Run with April @ Run the great wide somewhere and Patty @ My no-guilt life

This week’s topic is: Running Role Models/Runners You Admire

At my advancing age, I admire those runners over 50 such as:

These Bloggers:

(Sorry I couldn’t list all the over 50 bloggers… and yes, you younger runners are inspiring too, but let’s face it, it’s easier for you. You’ll see!))

I love to read about older women who are staying fit, being active, organizing running groups, running races from 5ks through marathons.

and of course, older runners that I have read about:

  • Harriette Thompson who ran a marathon at age 92.

  • Joan Benoit Samuelson at age 58, who can still finish a marathon in less than 3 hours.

I admire any older woman who is out there running, fast or slow, alone or in a group.  I hope to be able to do the same for a very long time…

Happy Running! Who do you admire as a runner?

  1. That’s why I decided to write about something different — truly, most every runner inspires me, young, old, fast, slow. But the ones that are 70+ and still out there — or blowing past me — totally inspiring!

  2. I love your running role models. They’re mine, too. Because I can only hope I’m running as much or as far as these rockin’ ladies when I’m 80+ years old, too!

  3. Thanks for including me in your group – and I got a big laugh from your “you’ll see” to the younger runners…I run with people who are 20 years younger than me, and I’ve said that exact same thing to them!

  4. I am inspired by a lot of older runners who have managed to run 20, 30 years and still be at it and enjoying it. One coach I met at my training team is that way. I want to be that way, but my health issues keep surfacing, it is harder when you are “older”. I try to adjust and move on 🙂
Keep running Darlene:) I am always inspired by you.

  5. I swear, you just made me misty eyed. You are too kind. I must say, over 50 runners KICK BUTT and you, my friend, are in this category as well. And thanks for the links because I don’t know all of these ladies.

  6. Oh I love this post. I am finally catching up on blog reading after being gone for 17 days. I also have a ton of respect and admiration for the older runners out there including you Darlene!
