Runfessions for May

It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice

1. I runfess…

Boating season has started and there’s running and racing…I want it ALL! It’s a challenge on the weekend.  Fingers crossed for hubby’s tennis and the weather to coordinate with MY plans.

Ahhh…Lake George

Do you have other activities on the weekend that conflict with your running?

2. I runfess…

I have a red wine problem.  I never was much of a drinker. For awhile it was Reisling. Then it was nothing. Now it’s Red Wine (I mean I’ve read many articles about its health values LOL).

I didn’t used to drink the night before a race, of course.

But that has gone by the wayside too …with no ill effects I might add.

Any wine drinkers out there? Or other food/drink addictions?

3.I runfess…

I’ve long been an anti-stretch, anti-foam roller, anti-massage, anti-chiro kind of runner. But I’ve now been making monthly chiropractor visits even though nothing hurts.

Just in case…

Still haven’t bought a foam roller or gone for a massage yet….

The chiropractor was a big step for me.  My hubby even went to her and she cured his injured calf muscle and tennis elbow.

Do you see a chiropractor regularly?

4. I runfess…

I have already created my Marathon Training Plan (which starts July 1). It’s a variation on Hal Higdon’s for first-time marathoners.

those mid-week long runs will NOT happen no doubt but a girl can dream

Do you create training plans this far in advance?

5.I runfess…

Speaking of being type A, I am getting to register for a winter 2020 race. Many of the ones I’d like to run don’t fit into my schedule but I may sign up for:

  1. I think getting your training plan ready in advance is a great idea, especially so you can make sure that any races you wanna do in the meantime fit in ok.

I don’t see a chiropractor regularly, but I try to at least stretch after every run, and foam roll occasionally. Post-pregnancy, my body seems not to recover as well or as fast.

  2. That’s awesome you’re all set with your NYCM plan! I used a NYRR coach when I ran NYCM and I felt well prepared for the bridges. I used to only see my Chiro when I was injured but I learned that if I went proactively I wouldn’t get injured. Haha!

  3. Food addictions, yes. Drink? Nope.

You know I’m a big chiro/foam roll/massage advocate. I plan to get my massage tomorrow. It’s actually been a while since I’ve been to my chiro & I need to schedule an appt. You’re less likely to have problems if you go in for maintenance (but for me it’s usually every other month unless there’s something wrong).

I do like to plan out training for a big goal race. It helps you look at what you know is going on in your life & juggle things. I thought you said you planned to go up to 20 miles though?

    • There’s 20 on the schedule. Oct. 13.

Not a goal race. Just a have fun with friends. Know at least 5 others running it. And of course finish to get my one marathon medal.

  4. Your training schedule looks similar to what Jeff did for his first marathon, except that I think the longest weekday run he did was 5 miles. Good luck to you with this – it’s an exciting adventure!

I didn’t do anything like going to a chiro regularly, but it looks like I’ll be going to PT on an ongoing basis…anything to feel better!

I would love to find a race with a medal for 2020 because I want a medal that has 2020 on it, LOL. But I’m not sure how much running is in my future, so I have to hold off on signing up for anything. God knows I spent a lot of money this spring on races that I didn’t end up being able to run, ugh.

  5. Good luck on your new marathon adventure.
The only “activity”on the week end that conflicts with my running is …. my wife! But she understands my “illness”.
I am teetotal and coca cola addicted.
I see the physiotherapist regularly and regularly I have thermal baths.

  6. I signed up for a January 2020 trail race in December 2018! You have to sign up early for this race – it closes fast! I never did the Ft. Lauderdale one, but I have looked at it before. It looks appealing.
I don’t go to a chiropractor, but I get a massage once a month now, on advice from my orthopedist. It’s a hurts-so-good kind of thing. Really helps with muscle knots.

I really like your marathon training schedule, but I don’t think I could go another 9 after a 5K! You are tough! 🙂

  7. I think it’s awesome that you are already making plans for races. The A1A half marathon sounds like a fun one. Nothing wrong with being type A lol!

  8. Glad to hear the chiro helped your husband too
Wine — I got into it last week and am reminded why I don’t. Wasn’t drunk or anything but I have no tolerance.
We need to talk Hal and training next week. Too long for fingers.
