Erika @ MCM Mama Runs hosts Tuesdays on the Run with April @ Run the great wide somewhere and Patty @ My no-guilt life!
This week’s topic is: Fall Race Plans
For the first time in recent years that I have been healthy, I am NOT running a Half Marathon!
Yes, I thought about it … a lot…but it is hard to train in the hot weather and I am busy with boating on the weekends. So I decided to skip it this fall.
Instead, I am running for enjoyment and doing short races except for two longer ones:
- The Perfect 10 miler on Oct 26.
It is a new race for me and supposedly flat. I am going to combine it with a visit to a former college roommate in New Jersey. The race is all-women and in addition to a medal, you get a hoodie.
and
- The Stockadeathon 15K on Nov. 9.
This race is the oldest 15k in the country. I’ve done it twice before. It is challenging but lots of fun. This year they changed the course. I’m going to miss the big fireplace in the park to warm up. The start and finish activities will now be indoors.
Now here are some of the shorter races that I plan to run:
- Run for the Roc 5k on Sept 28.
This is a new one for me but it’s at the race track in Saratoga and sounds like fun.
- Burnt Hills Apple Run 5K on Oct 4.
This 5k was recommended to me by a runner from Conn. and her friend. I hope to see them again at the race.
- Falling Leaves 5K on Oct. 11
I ran this one several years ago and liked it. It was my first age group win, I think.
- Great Pumpkin Challenge 10k on Oct 18.
I have signed up for this race but never run it. This is the year! It takes place in Saratoga National Park which is a very pretty place to run.
- Troy Turkey Trot 10K on Nov 27.
This is the most popular race in my area. I have always avoided it because it is so crowded. The local 5k that I usually run has changed to be non-timed so I think I’ll give this one a shot this year.
These are the races that I have signed up for so far.
But you know me, I may even add a few more.
You’re a racing machine. I wish there were more 10-milers around here. Love that distance.

These races sound fun. 10miles is a great distance. I did a ten miler in December last year and it was so cold. Now this year they changed it to a 5miler night race which I thought was a great idea. You even get to run through a Christmas lighted boardwalk. How fun!

Sounds like fun. Yes 10 milers are less daunting that half marathons but there aren’t many of them.

I wish we had more fun stuff around VT! I’ve got the Color Run this weekend, a half marathon in early November, and a Turkey Trot 5k on Thanksgiving.

Where is VT do you live?

Up in the Burlington area. A lot of small races happen, but not a lot of big, fun ones. The fact that the Color Run is happening here is kind of a big deal!

i signed up for the Stockade-a-thon back in 2009 and got hurt so i couldn’t run — maybe i’ll do it this year! i was supposed to run the Mohawk Hudson marathon again this year but tendonitis has set me back, so i’m foregoing that unfortunately.

So sad about your injury! Are you going to run the half instead of the marathon or just defer until next year. Hope I run into you at the Stockade-athon!

I look forward to reading about your Perfect 10 experience. CGI put together the LOVE run, which I really enjoyed despite the rain and they also manage the Perfect 10. Good luck with all your races.

Yes, that’s why I signed up for this one. And yes I enjoyed the Love Run. Wish the weather was better.

I’m thinking about stockadeathon; it’s never worked for me before – always too close to a half – but might this year. I will probably do Maddie’s Mark again this year – a medal for a 5k (but 10/19 I think so a day after your race).
I usually just run on thanksgiving – just don’t have the time to squeeze in a race.

Yes, I signed up for the Great Pumpkin because there are so few 10ks.

That 10K in Saratoga looks good. I am going to go look for it.

I hope so. We haven’t run together in a long time. But it’s the day before your annual Duathlon that I was planning to come watch.

One of these days I’m going to run our local Turkey Trot again, but I keep ending up spending a week at Disney on Thanksgiving week since our school calendar changed to give us that whole week off. Sounds like you have a great schedule. Thanks for linking up with us!
